Jallikattu protest: Protestors refuse to leave Marina Beach, form human chain

“I welcome it. This was to be done”.

With protesters raising slogans that an ordinance was only a temporary measure, Panneerselvam said, “The state’s Jallikattu ordinance route is permanent, robust and sustainable, will be made into a law in the coming Assembly session”.

According to the Indian BBC reporter, various activities involving bulls have taken place throughout the weekend, with two people reported to have been killed while holding on to a bucking bull on Sunday.

In 2014, the Supreme Court of India banned Jallikattu after the Animal Welfare Board of India citing extensive evidence of torture and cruelty to the animals petitioned it.

PETA, an NGO funded by foreign nations, always rake up these issues. But there is no such thing. Raghava Lawrence has also joined the protest that is taking place on Marina beach, Chennai.

During the wee hours on Monday, the police forcefully tried to remove the protesters from Marina Beach to end the agitation.

The fact is that the ordinance would be introduced in the assembly following which it would become an act.

However, the protestors are demanding a permanent solution. “SC stayed Jallikattu so lawmakers got ordinance”, the Police said in a statement.

Police had begun evicting Marina beach early on Monday, saying they needed to secure the beachline before Republic Day.

Following this the police action began.

Several vehicles were also set on fire.

But in Alanganallur in Madurai, thousands of villagers braved the scorching sun to bar the vadi vasal orthe gateway to the arena, denying the authorities the chance to hold jallikattu in this popular venue. As people ran from the beach and collected on nearby streets, there was more violence.

Reacting to this behaviour of the state police, DMK’s acting party president MK Stalin condemned the act and said,”It’s highly condemnable for using force to disperse the crowd who were fighting democratically”.
