Theresa May to unveil ‘global Britain’ business growth plans

“With a plethora of OEMs, well developed supply-chains, world-leading academic institutions and a location in the centre of the country, the East Midlands is a key place for delivering this”.

Through our industrial strategy and Midlands Engine strategy we will build on these extraordinary local strengths and create new opportunities and jobs in other industries and sectors. Aviation stands ready to provide the worldwide connectivity necessary as part of that but to do that we will need new global agreements on where we can fly and how frequently we can fly there.

May’s plan also include investment in STEM skills, digital skills and numeracy, in order to tackle the skills crisis facing the UK.

As part of an effort to boost skilled labour in the United Kingdom, the government announced that it will invest £170 million in new technical colleges. Clearly, engineering, technical and hands-on skills are crucial for our industry to address the ever increasing skills shortage.

She told the BBC’s Andrew Marr Show the strategy was built around the country’s strengths as it exits the European Union.

Some of the funding will come through the government’s new Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund, which will be overseen by UK Research and Innovation.

Effective adoption of technology throughout businesses and improvements in management and workforce skills are just as important, as are new ways of providing services, from financial services and retail to professional advice.

The deals will only be available to sectors that organise themselves and make the case for government action that could help them, with May citing the automotive and aerospace industries as sectors that have successfully used this model.

The review will also assess growth from the energy sector and the industrial opportunities for the UK. The U.K. government is also considering plans for the world’s first tidal lagoon, which if approved, would be produced in the U.K. Government support will be available to enable this to happen. Ultimately, however, this will remain subject to the trade treaties that follow Brexit. “The industry will be keen to know quickly the identity of the major new infrastructure proposed; and will be disappointed if it transpires that these are ones which have previously been announced”. “He has already said to me that he wants to see a very strong relationship between the United States and the UK in the future”, she said. Many of our members stand ready today to deliver intelligent storage solutions across the power system.

“If we can totally eliminate the back office using process robotics, we can move to create a single office where workers are empowered to be more customer focussed by concentrating on marketing, product innovation and total customer satisfaction”.

The green paper hinted at a greater push towards employers supporting lifelong learning as well as training for young people, saying: “The amount of time invested by adults in training mid-career is going down, while employers’ investment in training has been in decline for two decades despite numerous attempts to reverse the trend”.
