Conservatives urge Sen. Casey to support Betsy DeVos nomination

Right now, Americans can only pray that her still-inchoate enthusiasm for school choice will not effectively doom tens of millions of children to substandard public schools that have been starved of resources and responsible government oversight. Senate Democrats, including former Democrat vice presidential nominee Tim Kaine, Vermont Sen.

As if to illustrate his point, dozens of protestors rallied to picket against Alexander’s support of DeVos outside of the Marriott Marquis in downtown Washington where the NSBA conference was held. DeVos’ nomination was “unacceptable”, she said.

It was adorable to watch Murray tack the “in a school” reference on to the end of the question to make it seem tangentially related to the office of education secretary.

There are a few catch phrases you will hear from her that basically amount to “I don’t know what I’m talking about but I don’t want to admit it”.

“Mrs. DeVos, if an eighth-grade girl tried to sell you some non-existent steaks, would that qualify her for the presidency?” Schumer disagrees with DeVos’s plans to privatize education, enforce daily prayer in school and her refusal to divest from her companies. As one who believes parents can make the right choices for their children and understands the appropriate role of federal oversight to ensure successful implementation of the law, DeVos’ lifelong advocacy has prepared her for this position. Sen. As Dr. Barrett-Tatum stated, “To be a successful Secretary of Education, one needs a deep understanding of the complex issues facing our educational system, along with a respect for the policies that consider and respect the diversity that is at the heart of our country”. When asked about higher education, she was stumped. Typically, Education secretary is a banal job within the administration.

“We need to do what is best for our kids and not for the adults who are employed in the public school system”, Brouillette said.

She has no real experience in the education system because all she’s done in the past is financially support her interest groups.

And her lobbying efforts in MI have had little to no bearing on the quality of schools there.

This statement was mocked online and shows that DeVos is alarmingly disconnected from the issues schools face. He said failed public education led to poverty, underemployment and incarceration. That’s the only reason I can think of for Betsy DeVos’s confirmation process to be more fraught than the others.

Even when trying to stay on topic, Democrats have whiffed.

Whatever is the solution to Detroit’s school problems, it can’t be further fragmentation.

America’s students deserve a leader whose life’s work demonstrates a commitment to serving all students, especially the most vulnerable. “She just hasn’t been active with and involved in unionized traditional public schools”.
