Snow Expected Tuesday on Long Island

January 31 04:49 2017

Old Man Winter has returned from his hiatus, as a batch of snow is expected into Tuesday for Racine County.

How miserable has the weather been?

Monday night: Snow, mainly after 7 p.m. Temperature rising to around 31 by 4 a.m.

But the daytime high Tuesday could get past 40 degrees, turning the precipitation to rain.

Residents should check with the Lane Regional Air Protection Agency for current restrictions, the weather service said. The chance of precipitation is 70 percent with accumulation of less than one inch possible. The NRV and Highlands can expect 1- 3 inches of snow in spots, especially right along the West Virginia border. Scattered light snow showers should persist at least into Wednesday, if not Thursday. Snowfall around 1 inch. Winds are expected from the South at 10 to 15 miles per hour with gusts up to 25 miles per hour.

February will begin with another bout of snow, freezing rain and messy driving conditions for motorists, but the nastiness probably won’t linger into the weekend, forecasters say.

Much of Northern Idaho is under winter weather advisories calling for up to a foot of snow Monday night until Wednesday morning.

Thursday: Partly cloudy. High around 24F.

Wednesday becomes dry with mostly cloudy skies becoming partly cloudy at times.

Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 30.
