Trump and the ban

He has continued to raise suspicion that he’s driven by his financial interests, omitting from his travel ban several Muslim-majority countries where he does business. The order severely affects the social fabric of our nation, dividing and pitting one American against the other.

While President Trump has said the order is not a Muslim ban many including Roble, believe that it has more to do with religion than anything else.

On Dec. 7, 2015, candidate Donald Trump called “for a total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States until our country’s representatives can figure out what is going on”.

On Friday, before U.S. District Court Judge Nathaniel Gorton, the ACLU and MA attorney general’s office argued for an extension of last weekend’s temporary restraining order against the ban, which by law could last only seven days.

The Trump administration has given little indication of how extreme vetting will play out in the years ahead. For that matter, why did Trump pick seven specific countries to halt immigration from?

Under the order, worldwide students from the countries on the list may not be able to come back; including Iraq, Iran, Yemen, Somalia, Sudan, Libya and Syria.

“When the communities that surround terrorists view the United States and the West favorably, they are more motivated to help intelligence and law enforcement officials stop attacks”, says Jacob Shapiro, professor of politics and worldwide affairs at Princeton University in New Jersey, writing in Tuesday’s online edition of Foreign Affairs.

The third myth is that Trump’s immigration order and goal of reducing refugee immigration is unprecedented.

When asked whether the United States should welcome Christian refugees, but not Muslim ones, 72 percent of Democrats disagreed, compared to 45 percent of Republicans.

A January poll conducted by Reuters and research firm Ipsos found that 82 percent of registered Republicans are in support of Trump’s ban, which also halted the entire usa refugee resettlement program. Instead he proposed having Americans pay for the wall by levying a 20 percent tax on consumer goods imported from Mexico.

When asked if they were the last refugee family expected to settle in North Carolina under Trump’s new orders, Phillips said he hoped not. Many are asking why, considering Christians make up 10 percent of Syria’s entire population.

The new Republican president’s order signed on January 27 triggered chaos at USA airports last weekend. It appears to have been created haphazardly without sufficient input from or guidance to the agencies that are actually tasked with carrying it out.

The order was met with quick legal challenges but the biggest blow came yesterday when a United States federal judge put in on hold nationwide.
