Lady Gaga opened the Super Bowl LI halftime show from the roof of NRG stadium in Houston, singing “God Bless America” and “This Land is Your Land” in a glittering silver suit, reminiscent of David Bowie, before diving into the stadium. Then things got wild. She encouraged her Houston audience to roar at their home-state “Poker Face” opening line, “I wanna hold ’em like they do in Texas, please”.
Gaga shared the stage with icon, Tony Bennett, Sunday.
Eagle-eyed Hillary Clinton tweeted a pro-immigration link to US Weekly’s message: “This land was made for you and me”.
The list of legendary acts that have given the Super Bowl halftime their best shots is a long and prestigious one.
However, the performance was devoid of any political statements and mostly focused on unity as the main theme.
Lady Gaga’s halftime show at the Super Bowl was big on glitz and fun, offering an uncontroversial message of inclusion and patriotism to a deeply divided nation.
Although many publications are speculating that Gaga will take down Trump in her performance (just like every celeb as of late), she’s not confirming anything. Yet.
“We went through my whole career, and chose songs both the football fans and the people that are just tuning on for the halftime show will enjoy”, Gaga teased.
“She dreamed of someday taking the stage herself for one of those iconic performances – she practiced her vocals, she perfected her dance routines, she planned her costumes”, Germanotta wrote.
Before the performance, Gaga said on Instagram: “I dedicate every second to the love, diversity, compassion, and wild spirit of our fan base”.

Super Bowl performances are rarely directly provocative, although a year ago Beyonce startled many by playing her single ‘Formation.’ Its video had a message against police brutality. “We have 13 minutes with the world”.
