Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr was certainly not a happy camper during Saturday night’s game against the Sacramento Kings. As a unit, the Warriors shot 41 percent overall, 34 percent from three and had just 22 assists on the night.
The Warriors started slow, allowing the Kings to go on a 6-0 run in the first two minutes but they quickly went on a 13-2 run to take the lead, which they held for the rest of the first quarter.
In a game that could be a preview of the first round of the playoffs, Golden State and Sacramento exchanged blow after blow. Is KD’s mind already on his OKC return? Then we pop in some sound clips of Kerr, Durant and Green postgame.
Turnovers: Turnovers remain to be an issue for the Sacramento Kings as they added a whopping 16 turnovers to their season total after tonight’s game.
Per Stephen Curry’s request, the Warriors have opted for a more pick and roll-oriented offense after losing to the Cleveland Cavaliers on Christmas Day.
I’m still not sure it’s time to hit the panic button since we’re still pre-All-Star break. Cousins’ fade-away 18-footer went off the front iron with 2.9 seconds left. “Whether we’re playing the defending champs or whoever we’re playing, we need to have the same focus and intensity every night”. The Kings had the better second period, thanks to a 12-point burst off the bench from big man Willie Cauley-Stein. Cousins has recorded 14 double-doubles – one of the points/assists variety – in the past 15 games.
After four straight Kings free throws – one for a technical on Green – Kerr erupted. It’s an 82 game schedule, and as Green mentioned after the game these are dog days, so an occasional weak performance is bound to happen.
Cousins had 32 points, 12 boards and nine assists, but having to work hard against the Warriors tough defense. After rocking back and forth for a few moments, Green walked to the locker room with a slight limp. He also came back after a one game absence from a shoulder injury. Players that normally are efficient from beyond the arc, DeMarcus Cousins, Darren Collison, and Arron Afflalo, failed to make a single three-pointer in tonight’s game. Guards Michael Carter-Williams, Jerian Grant and Rondo all have been contributing productive minutes over the past three games for the Bulls.
