Rick and company think they have to get back to Alexandria in case Negan’s gang comes looking for Daryl – but Jesus reveals he swiped one of the Saviors’ walkie-talkies when he sneaked into their compound, so he’ll get a heads up if any Saviors go on the move. His answer was somewhat surprising, given the dark violence that’s blanketed the past eight episodes of the series. But first, let’s review.
Can’t wait to find out more about the mysterious new group, Father Gabriel’s passenger, and more on the war against Negan when a new episode of The Walking Dead airs Sunday, February 19!
Michonne, no!: It was a lovely little speech that our favorite warrior gave Rick after they escaped the horde: “You can smile; we made it”. They’ve got the numbers and the firepower to actually pose a serious threat to the Saviors, and it’s exactly what the show needed. Some of the communities are going to come together to take on Negan, and this new group could possibly join the fray.
Gabriel at the start of this episode was seen raiding Alexandria’s food supplies, leaving it all but depleted except for the shelves they were stored on. At Hilltop, Gregory continues to be a coward, refusing to help Rick and the crew, but it won’t matter. No biggie, there’s only like 5 of them there anyway and they’re all butter soft.
“We want them to stay on the highway, we may need it”, Rick said. Oh, Morgan, you’re not fully changed yet… hopefully someday soon you’ll turn into that very sane renegade killing machine we know is hidden deep within your soul. This week: Rick talks to a politician, Rick talks to a king, and Rick smiles at a lot of ladies. Negan invaded Alexandria, took Eugene hostage so he can make bullets for them, and added to his body count. So you know, that’s nice.
“Kingdom can not grant you the aid you desire”, Ezekiel said. Carol warns him about traveling alone. But unlike some previous seasons, 7B will not end with a major cliffhanger.
“Fat Joey’s good for something at least”, says another.
Well first we have to deal with some Saviors, who are on the hunt for Daryl.
Negan might not appear in the episode except for his voice on a walkie-talkie but his presence looms large as the Group runs into an explosive trap set up by the Saviors. The Saviors search Alexandria room-to-room, but come up empty.
In the midseason premiere of “The Walking Dead”, Rick and the group discover a brand new band of survivors, but can they be trusted? It’s one of the most ridiculously unbelievable moments in a show based on a ridiculously unbelievable premise, but hell, it sure did look cool. Rick’s main focus right now has been to enlist as many supporters as he can as he prepares to fight Negan’s group, the Saviors. He wants to take care of his people and he has a good reason: All the children with missing limbs are because he sent them out to fight the Walkers when he shouldn’t have.
It is entirely possible that this new group has no corresponding counterpart in the comics and that they have been created purely for the show.
