And on Wednesday, Kate Upton made the rounds to plug her three-cover Sports Swimsuit Issue, stopping by Extra in NYC to chat about the “incredible” experience.
The Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue is usually known for featuring impossibly gorgeous models wearing next to nothing.
According to the magazine, photographer Yu Tasi shot this year’s cover photos of Upton in Fiji. And at age 22, she earned a position as a member of the 22-person SI swimsuit legends class along with models like Tyra Banks and Christie Brinkley. Sports Illustrated’s Swimsuit issue director and mom MJ Day posted a video of herself in a bikini as a way to encourage women to love their bodies exactly as they are – and it’s attractive. The likes of Cheryl Tiegs, Elle Macpherson and Kathy Ireland has graced the cover multiple times in years past.
So just when it seems like Kate Upton is slipping off the radar she reminds us once again why she’s one of the best in the business.
The 26-year-old model is expecting her first child with hubby and Major League Baseball legend Derek Jeter.
The covers were also revealed, and (fittingly) there are three of them.
SI editor MJ Day said: “It’s a full circle moment for us. It was inspiring to be asked to be a part of that issue”.
Kate isn’t just a champion in the Sports Illustrated photoshoots, she is also a famous equestrian champion.
Hunter goes on to say it was when she was 19 and she saw other curvy women- Robyn Lawley, Tara Lynn, and Candice Huffine- on the Vogue Italia cover that she realized she could have a career as a plus-size model.
In case you are wondering, the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit edition started in 1964 with cover model Babette March. “I grew up in an American family, so it always was on the coffee table and to be that girl on the magazine on the coffee table would just be really groundbreaking for me”.
Sports Illustrated announced the exciting news on Tuesday, Feb. 14.
“They’re very hard to read”, the 24-year-old supermodel said with a laugh.
