The meeting in the Capitol basement included presentations from leaders of key House committees and Health and Human Services Secretary Tom Price, and it was meant to give lawmakers more information ahead of a week-long recess where many of them will be meeting constituents eager for details on what will replace the health care law the GOP has pledged to repeal.
The proposal would allow Americans who lack insurance to buy coverage with refundable tax credits they can receive before the end of a tax year.
House GOP members met Thursday to hear more from committee leaders about efforts to replace the massive health reform law. Given that the vast majority of customers would want to use their tax credits, most carriers would likely drop abortion coverage from their offerings.
“I don’t sense any bickering amongst the Republicans or any of that”, said Kennedy. I know several people for whom the exchanges have literally been a lifeline.

A competing proposal by Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky and Representative Mark Sanford of SC, backed by the conservative Freedom Caucus, includes an individual tax break that can’t lead to a refund. The meeting Thursday centered on “principles and goals on where we’re going in patient-centered care”, said House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Kevin Brady, R-La., after the meeting.
