The candidates all act as though the mass alienation from the Democratic Party among working people had nothing to do with its embrace of right-wing anti-working class policies: attacks on public education, savage budget cuts at the local, state and federal level, cover-up for police violence, promotion of militarism and war. And the New York Times suggests that Democratic leaders pushed Perez to run because they viewed Ellison as too close to the Sanders wing.
It remains to be seen whether the drawn-out campaign for this role will help the party as it looks to rebuild itself.

Although it is obviously hard to constantly field the general public’s insecurity about the parameters of his Muslim faith, Keith Ellison has many positive things to say about his time in Congress. “We need an inspiring vision of equality that resonates in the hearts, minds and souls of all Americans”.

Perez enjoys the establishment support from Clinton supporters, and Ellison has the backing of progressives.
Contender Tom Perez has secured some noteworthy endorsements himself, including one from former Vice President Joe Biden and governors Terry McAuliffe of Virginia, John Bel Edwards of Louisiana, John Hickenlooper of Colorado and Gina Raimondo of Rhode Island, according to CNN.
The 447 members of the Democratic National Committee is scheduled to elect the next chair Saturday at a meeting in Atlanta. A simple majority is needed to win, and if no candidate reaches this threshold at the first time of asking additional rounds of balloting take place until a victor emerges.
Many others agreed, several of whom stressed their perception that Democrats had become perceived as an anti-white political party.
Don’t write Perez off yet, though. Observers say the battle could go to extra ballots.
