LG G6 is the first phone to debut Dolby Vision HDR

The company notes that most entertainment content on the Google Play Store already supports the 18:9 aspect ratio, but LG is also adding a “zoom mode” for unsupported content. Nearly every partner LG worked with to develop the phone were present at the event and spoke at length about the features painting a picture that the G6 is the smartphone of the future.

The LG G6 is now official, and the company has chose to stick with a dual-camera setup on the backside of the device.

The LG G-Series, including the new LG G6 has been carefully crafted by LG to address the “enthusiast” market (my term, not LG’s). It’s true the G6 delivers on all of these strategies, but it’s unclear how well it’ll perform on the market. In addition, Imangi Studios, the guys behind Temple Run 2: The Lost Jungle, will offer G6 owners a package of content for their new game for $49.99 which will offer enough coins to unlock every single character in the app.

From the few hours I’ve spent using the phone, I can honestly say that I like it – a lot. We’ve started with English and German, we’re adding more languages over time.

The LG G6 event effectively kicked off Mobile World Congress 2017 in Barcelona, and the livestream is still available for you to catch up with below.

Dolby Vision technology: High Dynamic Range (or HDR) is the new trend catching up in television industry. Much has been hinted at over the past month and now we know all the details of the latest LG flagship.

The G6 is the first phone to fit a big flat 5.7-inch screen which LG has named FullVision Display into a compact 5.2-inch body. Without much hesitation, here’s a look at the official specs of the phone as confirmed by the South Korean company. The clarity is incredible, the colors are bold and vivid, and the contrast is as close to ideal as I’ve seen. It’s created to make the best use of the 18:9 aspect and relies heavily on squares – after all, there are effectively two 1:1 squares in a 2:1 display, right?

LG addressed a couple key areas where the Samsung S7 differed from LG flagships. For more than 50 years, sight and sound experiences have become more vibrant, clear, and powerful in Dolby.

Australian pricing and availability will come down the track, until then – we just have to wait, and assume that the Telcos will be impressed by the device and want to get it on their store shelves asap.

In case you’re wondering, yes, the Snapdragon 835 is indeed the next-generation chipset that will power the U.S. version of Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+.

That Snapdragon 821 chip moves things along quite snappily.

At its launch, the LG G6 will also be compatible with HDR 10, the rival format to Dolby Vision.

The LG G6 sports a dual-camera setup on the back that is very similar to the one we saw on last year’s V20. It captures panoramic shots you can’t get on other phones.

As expected, the G6 abandons the modular design used by its predecessor in favor of a more typical modern smartphone build – complete with a non-removable battery.

The smartphone is durable as it comes with IP68 water and dust resistance that makes it safe to be immersed in up to 1.5 meters of water for as long as 30 minutes and is also equipped with Hi-Fi Quad DAC for some exceptional music listening experience. Android 7.0 Nougat is running by default here, which is no surprise. The screen itself is taller than an iPhone 7 but narrower. They claim its the same body as a typical 5.3-inch body.
