The South Korean electronics company proudly showcased the modular G5’s successor, and it is, as expected, nowhere similar to its predecessor. One of the highlight features of the G6 is its display.
LG tried their best to create a unique smartphone that would be popular in the users past year by creating the LG G6. Under the hood, the phone has a Snapdragon 821 Processor because Samsung has control over the Snapdragon 835 for a while now. In addition, the 18:9 aspect ratio, QHD+ resolution and Dolby Vision offer a decent picture quality for an authentic cinematic viewing experience, flawless for streaming movies as long as you’re willing to hold it nice and close to your face. The IPS LCD panel boasts of 1440 x 2880 QHD+ resolution, resulting in a pixel density of 565 pixels per inch. LG also chose to bring back its wide angle camera on the back and front, which makes it easier to pull of some neat tricks with the camera. One is your typical camera; 13-megapixels, OIS, f/1.8 aperture, while the other has a much wider field-of-view.
Just below the camera is the ideal place for a fingerprint sensor, simply because it’s one’s finger naturally rests when you pick up a phone.
Front camera: 5-megapixel camera. On the front is a 5MP selfie snapper with a 100-degree FOV lens.
The smartphone also has Google Assistant built-in which works with LG apps, and it will run Android 7.0 Nougat.
Yes, that means LG’s removable battery – it was the last major phone maker to offer this feature – is no more. LG has finally launched the LG G6.
The feature is not earth shaking, however, it is certainly interesting to see smartphone manufacturers working hard to incorporate new, small stuff to make the overall user experience better. But for now the list of unique features. Reason? It’s big enough and yet, because of the aspect ratio keeps the phone slim enough (72mm) to make it usable with one hand. The aspect ratio is at 18:9, which is unusual compared to the normal 16:9, but this means the screen is now taller than the G5.
The phone is encased in an aluminum and glass body, and comes in three colour options – black, platinum and white.
The G6 is water and dust resistant as well, the first time for a G-series phone, and it has an IP68 rating. Google Assistant will come baked in with LG G6.
Based on our first impressions, the LG G6 only feels slightly better than the Pixel because of its camera capabilities, brushed aluminium body, and slightly thinner body.
LG G6 will also be the first smartphone to support Dolby Vision. Expandable storage via MicroSD cards is also supported. “Amazon, Netflix, and the TV and movie industry will soon find there are more HDR capable video devices which are in consumers pockets than in their home because of the sheer scale of the smartphone market”, Lam explained. LG also talked a bit about the Quad-DAC for audio but it appears that this would be only available on versions sold in Korea.
