Sony Launches Xperia XZ Premium and XZs

Even this handset offers water and dust resistance. In this case, as it could not be otherwise, they mount a 19-megapixel sensor.

The new Sony high range has already been introduced for this year, and we will tell you the features of the Sony Xperia XZ Premium. In addition to those headline features, this has the new Adreno 540 graphics processor on board, paving the way for the XZ Premium’s insane sharp 4K HDR screen, plus improved Hexagon 682 DSP and Spectra 180 ISP companion chips, which enable the phone’s predictive photography and 920fps super slow motion capture. The 5.5-inch 4K resolution display has HDR tech and should make this smartphone one of the most popular devices out there for VR fans.

Now one might think that what good is a 4K panel with no 4K content available at your disposal. Strengthening that thought are the side-mounted fingerprint sensors that the two phones to the right feature, while the two phones to the left have circular power buttons.

The designs of the Sony Xperia Z5 Premium and Sony Xperia XZ Premium are broadly similar, with both sporting sharply rectangular shapes and slim dimensions of 7.9mm thick for the XZ Premium and 7.8mm thick for the Z5 Premium. This book could have been written two years ago.

Sony also showcased its Xperia Ear wireless headphones, which come with new audio technology and Sony Agent Technology, “a personal assistant that uses conversational voice interaction and head gestures to help you get things done, access information and communicate”.

And while there’s no OIS in here, Sony claims that its new 5-axis stabilization system, known as SteadyShot, should do the trick. The Predictive Capture function makes the camera buffer a few images whenever any motion is detected and keeps them ready even before you tap the capture switch. Well, Sony Mobile says you’re looking at a global launch in “late spring 2017“.

But the XZ Premium offers more than its cameras. That’s because it’s a minor refresh of the Xperia XZ announced just six months ago.

What’s really cool is the XZ Premium’s camera. The Qnovo Adaptive charging and the Battery care options when coupled with the Smart STAMINA mode promises a full day battery life. And U.S. buyers once again get the short end of the stick, as Sony cheaps out on fingerprint security. The Sony Xperia XZ Premium has a pixel-per-inch count of over 800, which is far more than what’s needed for a sharp picture where you can’t spot the individual pixels.

Sony’s latest odd contraption is a projector with an interactive display – the Xperia Touch has been shown and demonstrated at previous trade shows, but the company is finally bringing it to market.

Sony’s Hideyuki Furumi said of the announcement: “We’ve continued to evolve and transform our smartphone portfolio, with an unwavering focus on delivering the most advanced technology in elegantly designed products”.

In terms of processor, both Xperia XA1 and XA1 Ultra have an octa-core MediaTek processor and are paired with 3GB and 4GB of RAM respectively. The only device which did not see an update was the Xperia X. The device is scheduled to launch Late Spring 2017. The front camera is 13MP.

Let’s start with the flagship Xperia XZ Premium.
