The official Twitter accounts of World Boxing Organization welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao and rated welterweight star Amir Khan released statements Saturday that they have agreed to terms to fight each other on April 23.
Manny Pacquiao will be facing Amir Khan on April 23, according to several news outlets.
Khan tweeted how terms have been agreed for what he feels is a “super-fight”.
Manny Pacquiao said in an interview that he wants his next fight to be in the UAE however the venue for his match against Khan is yet to be announced.
When Eddie Hearn offered Khan what would have been a major payday against Kell Brook, the Bolton fighter said he would need a tune-up to get ready – and then rejected Hearn’s proposal anyway.
The announcement of the date adds further intrigue.
Jeff Horn, the unbeaten Australian (16-0-1), had been campaigning hard to fight Pacquiao. But the bout was thrown into doubt earlier this month, when Koncz told reporters in Abu Dhabi that his client would “100 per cent” fight in the Emirates. Pacquiao, 38, didn’t look sensational in that outing, but he definitely proved that even a diminishing version of himself is still good enough to compete against world-level opposition. I just think that this fight would be a great one.
Khan and Pacquiao have a history together, which makes his fight interesting for fans and boxing analysts alike.
Khan is a former light-welterweight champion who has always been pursuing a big payday fight with the Pacman. Pacquaio and Khan became training partners at Freddie Roach’s Wildcard gym in Los Angeles. Khan emerged as the overwhelming favourite.
Khan, who is from England but is of Pakistani extraction, echoed Pacquiao’s statements.
The Welterweight fight will be happening on 23rd April.
