Manchester United return to Premier League action for the first time in three weeks on Saturday, as they play hosts to AFC Bournemouth at Old Trafford.

But the real hope of Carrick is of persuading both Tevez and Ronaldo back for the game, which Carrick hopes will serve as a reminder of their 2008 Champions League final win over Chelsea.

“(Bournemouth are) a very tricky, unsafe team, with quality and ambition, who are not afraid to play”, the Manchester United boss added.

His performance culminated in a penalty save from a Zlatan Ibrahimovic penalty in the second half. Fortunately he slipped when clean through, and like Ibrahimović seconds earlier, wasn’t able to muster a shot.

United’s pressure finally paid off following Bournemouth’s failed to effectively clear a corner.

Ibrahimovic was given the chance to grab a victor in the second half with a penalty but saw his effort saved by Artur Boruc.

The visitors were then reduced to 10 men on the stroke of halftime when South Africa-born midfielder Andre Surman was sent off picking up a second yellow card.

Tyrone Mings escaped any approach from the referee after an apparent stamp on the head of Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

United attempted to press home their one-man advantage at the start of the second half, with Rooney seeing an effort deflected over and Martial delivering a succession of risky low crosses.

Ibrahimovic had the chance to give United the lead once more, but his second-half penalty was saved by Artur Boruc. Ibrahimovic has surpassed all expectations at Old Trafford and, with United pouring money into Project Mourinho, clearly believes something special is on the horizon.

“He’s selected [for Saturday’s match against Bournemouth] with possibilities to play, start or be on the bench, so since the moment he made a decision to stay and to help the team and to fight for Manchester United he’s an important player for us”.

Before the changes could even take effect on the game, the home side were awarded a penalty, as right-back Adam Smith was adjudged to have handled the ball inside the area.
