At which point the Australians might begin to think that chasing anything less than 300 might be feasible, or Pujara himself might be rendered unable to resume his defining, unbeaten 93-run stand with Ajinkya Rahane come the morning having been declared clearly certifiable. “So now we are really happy we got off to a good start and got good partnerships”.

So, it’s important for the batsmen to keep themselves busy, to keep taking those singles and not miss a loose ball and that’s what Rahane and Pujara did. Rahul and Mukund looked for runs from the word go, and knocked off a significant chunk of Australia’s lead in no time.

Virat Kohli’s heartbreak: The Indian captain walked out with India wobbling, and the stage was set for him to make his mark on this Test series.

“It’s not being happy with a 50 or 100 but batsmen who are wanting to go that extra mile, put in the hard work and play a big innings which will have an eventual impact on the state of the match”, the former India all-rounder told reporters.

All over for Australia!

When quizzed if India’s lacklustre performance was due to the long season of Test cricket they have been through, Pujara disagreed and said that there were enough breaks in between.

The Indian spinners did a fine job to clean up Australia in the morning session. Jadeja leaves the field to a standing ovation after completing a brilliant six-wicket haul.

Jadeja, who held the catch to dismiss Starc, was on a hat-trick after trapping Matthew Wade and Nathan Lyon lbw. Both the batsmen were trapped in front of the wicket.

Starc was in control of only a little more than half the deliveries he faced and he had ridden his luck: one catch should have been taken, and he had another overturned on review. Superb bowling from him today.

India scored 213 for the loss of 4 wickets and lead visitors by 126 runs.

After India were bundled out for 189 on Day 1, the spin duo of R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja together with the seamers struggled to provide the hosts wickets on regular intervals. Renshaw and Marsh led the team mainly where the opening partnership between Warner and Renshaw added more than fifty runs to the scoreboard. But replays failed to show significantly that the ball didn’t hit the pad first, and the India skipper had to be depart for his fourth low score of the series.

Australia have taken the lead and if the Test match slips out of India’s hands, Virat Kohli will be left to rue the fact that he could have given Jadeja some more overs.
