Hugh Jackman once told to find another job after original ‘X-Men’

The almost three-minute clip that appears after Logan is the first official teaser for Deadpool 2, the sequel to Fox’s blockbuster, R-rated superhero movie from a year ago.

Hugh Jackman’s final outing as Wolverine has brought in the crowds, with “Logan” delivering a sturdy $237.8 million (that’s just shy of £200 million) at the box office.

As a thank you to the fans who have supported him over this past decade and half, Jackman made a decision to display his gratitude to Wolverine-lovers with a video he released via Instagram.

Logan opened with a commanding $85 million, matching the $85 million start for 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine but well ahead of The Wolverine’s $53 million start in 2013.

For nine years, Hugh Jackman played Wolverine, the claw-wielding mutant from the North in the X-Men movie franchise.

Alas, poor Logan – we knew you as a mutant of infinite bad-assery and most excellent fury. With a $97 million budget, Jackman will go out on top.

In an interview with The Toronto Sun, Mangold explained that he wasn’t interested in closing out Logan with a post-credits scene- instead, the film features a pre-film Deadpool teaser. Adjusting for inflation though, the 2009 movie performed better, although it’s likely Logan will have stronger legs since it’s not getting critically panned.

‘It was my first movie in NY and it did give me many, many opportunities to play other things over the years that I may not have had, ‘ he said.

“Logan” also introduces the character Laura, a.k.a. X-23.

Basically, it’s a combination of wanting Logan to stand on its own terms (which we suspected) and sheer irritation at everyone assuming he had to include one.

The March 3-5 U.S. box office estimates are now in.

Logan is directed by James Mangold, who co-wrote the screenplay with Scott Frank and Michael Green, from a story by Mangold, and also stars Patrick Stewart, Richard E. Grant, Boyd Holbrook, Stephen Merchant and Dafne Keen.
