The Tampa Bay Buccaneers announced today that the team has agreed to terms with unrestricted free agent wide receiver DeSean Jackson on a multi-year contract.
On top of Jackson being one of the premier deep threats in the league, third-year wide receiver Mike Evans is coming off a season in which he was the No. 1 fantasy wide receiver in standard leagues.
Jackson had spent the past three years with the Redskins, averaging an NFL-best 19.03 yards per catch during that time.
Oh, and only two receivers had more deep targets than Jackson past year, and one of them was Evans.
In his nine seasons as a pro, Jackson has caught 498 passes for almost 9,000 yards. “He wants to get to San Francisco and play for Kyle Shanahan”. The veteran will get to team up with young quarterback Jameis Winston as the Bucs aim to build on a promising 9-7 campaign in 2016. All three players thanked Redskins fans and said goodbye – at least for now – on Instagram. This is a defense-first football city, but the Buccaneers should have one of the better passing games in 2017 thanks to the Jackson addition. He opened the season as a backup to Stephen Paea at left end and didn’t win the starting job until after the fifth game.
Martin, signed in 2015 off Indianapolis’ practice squad, led the Jets last season with 14 special- teams tackles. “Barring any unforeseen circumstances, it’s expected that the Redskins and Jackson will part ways, multiple people with knowledge of the situation have indicated”.
The speculation that Jackson would be in the Patriots uniform is officially over.
No one throws the ball longer, on average, more than Winston, whose 10.8 attempted air distance outpaced all other quarterbacks in 2016. He has reached the 1,000-yard mark five times already in his career. These are players with expired contracts who have two or fewer accrued years and who received a qualifying offer from their original teams.
