Royals’ Eric Hosmer, Danny Duffy help Team USA rout Canada in WBC

“I stare out the window and wait until spring”.

It’s about getting the average fan to appreciate the talent in baseball, and this is a great era full of it. They now will have two days off to reset their emotions before playing again Wednesday night against the runner-up in Pool D from Mexico.

“It was insane, it was loud, the fans they never give up”. The pace is fast, the fans are having fun, and it has yet to be boring.

He hit a two-run homer in the Dominican’s win over Canada on Thursday and hitting an RBI double its 7-5 comeback win over Team USA on Saturday night. That’s mostly because Team USA is stacked.

Here’s what MLB.com’s Andrew Simon said regarding a tiebreak situation.

US starter Danny Duffy was in complete control, holding Canada to two hits in four innings while striking out seven. The Americans have never reached the finals, much less won the tournament, and participation has been only so-so because of tepid support by major league teams fearful of injuries to players unaccustomed to going all-out in March.

Whether or not they’re capable of doing that is a whole other discussion.

Nolan Arenado is one of the game’s top players – finishing 4th in FanRag’s 25 at 25 rankings – and homered in Team USA’s win over Canada.

The U.S. fell to 1-1 and is in jeopardy of being eliminated in the first round.

The U.S. team was on the verge of clinching a berth in the second round when Miller took the mound with a 5-3 lead in the eighth.

The USA advanced to the next round of the World Baseball Classic following their 8-0 demolition of Canada.

Even though the Dominican team made it through the first round unscathed, it wasn’t easy for them. Hosmer also doubled in the second inning and scored on a single by Giants catcher Buster Posey.

Early in the game, it looked like Venezuela’s woes would continue as Italy had a 5-0 lead through four innings, with 2B Daniel Descalso driving in three of the runs.

Puerto Rico (1-0) is the group leader.

Mentioned on Twitter earlier this week how much fun it is to watch meaningful baseball in March, and the responses were actually sort of amusing, given how the WBC tournament has played out.

Puerto Rico has three of the best young shortstops in the game.

He did it by diving into the bag allowing the game-tying run to score. He gently placed the bat on the ground before circling the bases. Even on an All-Star team, he’s good enough to be a team’s best player. “It was very loud all game long”. Louder than any World Series. That is what makes the WBC so special. The players wearing the stars and stripes undoubtedly were, too. “I got a little emotional, because after the game, life goes on and your family goes on”.

Cuba vs. Japan, 6 a.m. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. But while the Dominicans have now booked their ticket to San Diego, the second qualifying slot remains wide open – but the Canada vs. United States of America contest will decide who moves on and who returns to routine Spring Training baseball.

Pool E runner-up vs. While the USA team may still salvage a spot in Pool F, failure to advance is a very real possibility and needing to qualify for 2021 is still on the table.
