Trump targets individual Freedom Caucus members in Obamacare tweetstorm

The White House detailed Deputy Chief of Staff Katie Walsh to a pro-Trump 501 (c) 4, America First Policies, Thursday, because it felt the president lacked “air cover” in the fight for healthcare.

“The only people being talked about right now are Freedom Caucus, but if you look at the whip count there’s about 40 and with about half conservatives”, South Carolina Rep. Mark Sanford told reporters. “I don’t want government running health care”, Ryan said. Or that just deigning to pitch Democrats on an idea is not going to work in most cases if the substance isn’t there. “Doing big things is hard”.

Trump’s broadsides come at a fragile time for Republicans, who failed to follow through on a key campaign promise last week despite holding both chambers of Congress and the White House.

Some Republicans seemed emboldened by the White House’s prodding. “The leader schedules the floor”. “I’m going to vote after I hear the debate”, he said.

Ryan insists he’s still trying to get the bill passed despite its collapse last week short of votes.

The group of roughly 36 hard-line conservatives was at the leading edge of Republican opposition during the Obama years. Breaking slightly with Ronald Reagan’s “11th Commandment” – thou shalt not criticize a fellow Republican – Rep. On Wednesday evening Speaker Ryan was asked what he thought of Mr Trump reaching out to Democrats on healthcare reform.

In an interview with CBS This Morning, House Speaker Ryan said the Republican health care bill did not survive because the members of his party are going through a “very painful growing pain”.

Meadows says the group will be more flexible in this debate than it was on health care. “We need to stick at this and come up with a solution”. But he’s since criticized the Freedom Caucus for its resistance.

“We’re within striking distance”, he said.

The next day he wrote the Freedom Caucus “was able to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory”.

“I don’t feel compelled”, Brat said. “I share his frustration”, said Ryan. “We’ve been working on a bill”. The House is scheduled to begin a two-week recess April 7, and Republicans would like to return home having passed some version of a health-care measure that only days ago was declared dead. The average for all House Republicans was slightly higher. He’s more what I would liken to right-wing nationalist, the kind that you’ve seen coming to prominence in Europe, for example. “If they will take repeal off the table, Democrats will slide the chairs up to the table”.

One administration official, speaking as were others on the condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to discuss the meetings, said it was a long overdue attempt to keep conservatives from criticizing Trump publicly.

But Ryan said that wouldn’t be a good outcome for the GOP.

Because Mr Trump faces unified opposition by Democratic politicians, he can not afford to lose many Republicans as he tries to get his legislative agenda, including health care, tax cuts and infrastructure spending, through Congress.

History says otherwise. When disaster strikes, people tend to blame whoever happens to be in power. “I don’t know what he is being advised”.

Meadows said that at this point if those were included “the vast majority of the Freedom Caucus would be a ‘yes'”.
