Rice, former President Obama’s national security advisor, reportedly requested to unmask the names of Trump associates caught up in sensitive intelligence reports.
McCAIN: “I think the circumstances indicate that there’s a possibility that that request could have been politically motivated”.
Rice insisted Tuesday she wasn’t motivated by politics.
“The surveillance initially is the responsibility of the National Security Agency”, Waurishuk said.
Even when US citizens are not intentionally targeted, their communications are routinely swept up in global surveillance.
Susan Rice denied allegations that she “unmasked” the names of Donald Trump’s associates for political purposes during an interview on Tuesday.
“That is absolutely false”, Rice said told MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell.
To Trump backers, the so-called “unmasking” is evidence that the Obama administration was surveilling the incoming administration for political purposes.
“There was a pace of reporting that accelerated as the intelligence community got more and more information on that”.
“There was no spreadsheet”, she said. “I was surprised to see reports from Chairman Nunes on that count today”, Rice said.
“Yes, in general, and any other national security adviser would, I think, as a matter of their ordinary course of business”, Comey said.
Again, even if you believe that Rice did something that was wrong – and her unusual decision to kind of, sort of, deny that she knew anything about the unmasking will add fuel to that fire – it is still not proof, or anything close to proof, that Obama ordered Trump to be wiretapped. Bloomberg columnist Eli Lake reports they included members of President Donald Trump’s team. “There was no such collection, surveillance on Trump Tower or Trump individuals”.
When a US intelligence agency, such as the National Security Agency, conducts surveillance of a foreigner inside the USA, sometimes that surveillance will include the name of an American that the foreigner is speaking to or about.
“Smoking gun found! Obama pal and noted dissembler Susan Rice said to have been spying on Trump campaign”, Sen.
It is hard to imagine that Susan Rice authorized all of this this on her own. “That those unmasking requests were fulfilled by intelligence agencies without any readily apparent intelligence value and reportedly went back to January 2016, before there was ever any questions to do with Russian Federation, gives a clear indication that this was surveillance of the opposition party by the Obama administration”.
“The intelligence community made the determination whether the identity of that US person could be provided to me”, Rice said. “This is the kind of stuff that is ripe for abuse from either party”, Paul said.
In nominating her to the ambassador’s post, Obama called Rice “a close and trusted adviser” and said she “shares my belief that the United Nations is an indispensable – and imperfect – forum”. “For us not to try to understand it would be dereliction of duty”.
