The smiling Woods hit Augusta National with a hurricane of hype and proceeded to flood the Masters field, winning by 12 strokes and setting an 18-under-par tournament record. “I haven’t quite got my game together, obviously, but I use those couple days to my advantage and feel very comfortable with where things are at”.
World number three Jason Day is to return to competitive action in a more upbeat mood at this week’s Masters in Augusta.
The 23-year-old native of Texas earned the win at the recent AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, but missed the cut at last week’s Shell Houston Open after failing to crack the top 10 in his three previous outings.
“I would have been thinking elsewhere”, Day said.
“That (short game) has been a big focus of mine for the first few months of this year and I’ve seen some improvements, certainly, in stats and just generally how I feel about it”.
Scott, who didn’t manage to get to the course before it was closed, said he believed he was close to his ball-striking best. Numerous players that wanted to get out on the course were able to, including the number one player in the world, Dustin Johnson.
“I don’t know, maybe it’s a good thing”.
Asked whether victory here would count more for him than his British Open crown, Stenson said any win was welcome but some were more special than others.
Rory McIlroy received plenty of criticism for golfing with U.S. President Donald Trump this year and on Tuesday the Northern Irishman said he would “think twice” before accepting a second invitation.
In his opening round past year Fowler sent shots into the trees, found water, overshot greens, yet he is not trying to erase that round from his memory. That’s something that I feel like if I putt very well, I’m going to have a chance to win on Sunday. “What I like most about this week is that Thursday, Friday, the weather is going to come in”, a gleeful Mickelson told reporters on Tuesday. His mother’s health was a primary concern, but when she learned Monday there would be no chemotherapy treatment required, Day knew he was good to go back to golf.
Fowler said he was surprised the rule was not changed long ago and that one would be hard pressed finding any golfer who would say otherwise.
