The whole thing might not be an elaborate smoke screen, and Nate explains why. News has come out that the Browns front office is leaning towards passing on former Martin High School, and Texas A&M Aggie, Myles Garrett.
According to Bleacher Report’s Mike Freeman, the Browns are considering trading down to accumulate picks. Acquiring a quarterback for two picks makes great sense, especially if the Browns truly believe Trubisky is their guy. But when veteran coach started talking about how he prefers his quarterbacks to be at least 6-foot-2 this offseason, some major red flags were thrown up.
But that doesn’t mean the Browns can’t get their quarterback as well.
Putting together a trade using the NFL Draft Trade Value Chart, the Bears giving up their first three picks (third, 36th and 67th overall) in exchange for number one looks about right. They also are coming off in a 2016 draft in which they picked four wideouts, including first-rounder Corey Coleman and rising Ricardo Louis.
And, he’d be a bonanza for the 49ers, who want to upgrade their pass rush in a scheme that is expected to feature a 4-3 base defense in which Garrett could be at home at defensive end. It would seem even the Browns are doubting themselves.
It’s too early to tell what the Browns will do. It’s never a bad idea to see what you can get, and if the Browns weren’t obscuring their intentions, they’d be negligent.
And for that reason, Manziel will hold the crown as the worst pick in franchise history for probably as long as the Browns remain an National Football League franchise.
Will there be a Mitchell Trubisky at 12 this year? The top overall prospect in the class would be a no-brainer for any team picking first this year. I love Garrett, but I just can not see that happening. Take everything with a grain of salt when rumors surface about teams interested in draft prospects since once they’re on the clock, anything can happen. The implication is that the Browns may be gun-shy about the possibility of passing on another potential franchise quarterback.
