A new article in The New York Times dubs Trump a “homebody president,” noting that, in his first 85 days in office, he has been to only seven states and a total of zero foreign countries, preferring instead to move from White House to Mar-A-Lago and back again.

While it’s significantly less than the more widely-used $3.6 million figure, Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton still noted that Trump’s travel schedule is “not what we expected from him, given his criticism of Obama”. For instance, Arizona Senator Jeff Flake claimed that he couldn’t criticize Trump’s travel spending because he is the President.

ALLEN: Wackrow says maintaining the visitor access system at the White House costs the Secret Service millions of dollars each year and is not easily replicated at Mar-a-Lago, Trump Tower or other places the president stays. By contrast, President Barack Obama had made public appearances in nine states and taken three overseas trips by this point in his presidency, and was beginning his fourth journey abroad.

The President arrived Thursday night, without his usual staff, most are taking time off for the holiday weekend.

Trump’s taken to calling Mar-a-Lago the “winter White House” or “southern White House”, clearly in part to give the impression that his time at the facility is spent on presidential business. He spent his three days in Palm Beach shuttling between Mar-a-Lago and Trump International Golf Club, spending nearly no time outside the cocoon of his two palm tree-lined properties.

“This is a privately owned club that for all intents and purposes was just another golf property in Florida before, that nearly now is something that Americans immediately recognize”, Schooner continued. “We are in such trouble that I am going to spend a lot of time here”.

Subsequent protests have not gathered as many attendees, but hundreds showed up at a rally in Palm Beach this weekend to demand Trump release his tax returns. The officials said the infractions were fixed the same day.

First Lady Melania Trump has sparked controversy by reportedly traveling to the Trump family’s Mar-a-Lago resort in a plane separately from President Donald Trump in a move that may have cost taxpayers over $100,000. “Why would I call China a currency manipulator when they are working with us on the North Korean problem?” he tweeted. “We will see what happens!” NPR’s Greg Allen reports. Rubio (whose office is across the street) and will send even more golf balls to members of Congress and the White House after the march.
