It’s meant to largely inform consumers and investors of where Volkswagen is headed with its electric vehicle strategy.

At the Auto Shanghai 2017 Show on Tuesday, Christian Senger, the head of Volkswagen’s electric car project, showed off VW’s battery-powered crossover and announced that the company has made “huge progress” in reducing the cost of making electric vehicles.

VW has said that it plans to sell a million EVs by 2025.

Volkswagen has confirmed that the third vehicle in the I.D. series will be an all-electric crossover named the I.D. Crozz. Production tentatively is to begin in 2020.

China has aggressively promoted plug-in hybrid and battery electric cars, dubbed “new energy vehicles”, to fight urban smog but is gradually phasing out subsidies in favor of hard requirements like quotas. Operating the I.D. Crozz’s functions are done via explanatory touch displays, capacitive keypads, and voice and gesture control. (Paris, 2016) and I.D. As well as a 0-62 miles per hour (100 lm/h) time of less than 6.0 seconds, Volkswagen also quotes a 112 miles per hour (180 km/h) top speed for the new concept. On the charging front, its battery can be topped up to 80 per cent in just 30 minutes, provided the charger output is powerful enough.

The third concept in the I.D. series to preview an upcoming production vehicle, it follows the I.D. hatchback, and I.D.

The I.D. Crozz has four roof-mounted laser scanners for autonomous driving mode, known as I.D. Pilot mode. CROZZ drives with autopilot. A smartphone on wheels. In addition to controlling the infotainment system, this one operates a cover under the transparent panoramic sunroof. Volkswagen also claims a front-to-rear weight distribution of 48:52, providing the basis for what it describes as “handling characteristics on par with the Golf GTi”. “The light elements – C-shaped LED daytime running lights and variably controllable LED headlights – merge to form a front end with electronic moving “eyes” (‘Interactive Spotlight”). Thus, the I.D. Crozz is able to incorporate rear-seat cushions that tip up in a fashion similar to the Honda Fit to allow taller items to fit inside the cabin.

Electric drive is redefining space. “The requirements whether they get changed or adjusted or whatever, the bottom line is clear that electrification is going to play a bigger and bigger role.in China and other markets as well”, Ford Motor Co (F.N) CEO Mark Fields told reporters at a pre-show event this month.
