Prince Fans To Mark Anniversary Of Music Superstar’s Death

Much has changed since then, but the emotion surrounding places like Paisley Park and First Avenue are still very real and very raw. Out of two of the April 21, 2016 deaths, Prince’s was the more famous.

“I am stunned and heartbroken”, he wrote.

When I said I got into the band and took my drums over, that was really the first time that we were introduced and Prince was real standoffish, the coldest-cut, wasn’t saying much, and just looking at me all insane.

Prince also wrote a multitude of songs for other artists, including the likes of Sinead O’Connor and Alicia Keys. Folks danced in the streets, repped their Prince attire and bonded over their deep admiration for a man who embodied every bit of what it means to be an artist.

“All the great music and performances that he gave his audience”, says Day, “I think that’s the best way to remember him”. “We knew each other for so long, it was like a family”. “It made me reflect”, says Day.

To that end, Light believes it’s imperative that Prince’s estate comes up with a way to ensure kids can understand the musician’s impact.

“He was a caring person, a giving person, and it just felt like I knew him”, she said. He said he had always liked his music, but “after he died, you started liking his songs all over again”.
