Judge’s 13th homer helps Yanks rally past Blue Jays 8

May 04 23:00 2017

Third Yankee ever to hit at least 12 homers in the team’s first 25 contests, joining A-Rod (14 in 2007) and Babe Ruth (12 in 1921).

A Mets 16, Braves 5: Jose Reyes tied his career high with five RBIs, and NY pounded out 20 hits in a rout of host Atlanta. (Sanchez, who missed the last month with a strained bicep muscle, is playing in rehab games this week.) The crowd definitely didn’t expect the Yankees to be contenders in 2017, let alone 17-9 and a game off of baseball’s best record.

Gardner said teammates wouldn’t speak with him after the game. His seventh-inning, one-out single allowed him to eventually score the tying run as the Yankees went on to win 8-6 over the Blue Jays. He’s taking his walks. He’s put really good at-bats on pitchers and really good pitchers.

The amount of power Judge can produce off his bat shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise, though, considering this isn’t the first screen he’s taken a shot at.

He stands in front of his dressing quarters in the Yankees clubhouse and you hear the right words. “Getting on base and running the bases and all the things that he did. The throw he made (Monday) night, the catches that he’s made, I mean, he’s just been a complete player”.

Aaron Judge of the New York Yankees is slugging home runs faster than any rookie in the history of Major League Baseball. “A little bit a year ago, I was tentative and didn’t go up there aggressive trying to attack my pitch that I could drive”. “And that’s what I’d seen from Gary a year ago”.

The right-hander looked anything but himself in the Blue Jays’ 8-6 loss.

Yet, Judge says he remains able to walk around the city unfettered. “Quality at bats. You never know what is going to be set up”. He homered on a 2-0 fastball against Marcus Stroman in the third but fought back from a 1-2 count against Joe Biagini (0-1), who struck out the previous five hitters. The veteran’s record holds at 2-1 as his ERA climbs to 5.45 after six starts. May.

Stroman allowed five runs for the second time this season and matched his shortest start by going three innings for the third time in his career. Stroman on the other hand has been solid, giving up just 2 runs or less in 4 of his 5 starts this season.

New York Yankees right fielder Aaron Judge (99) celebrates his two run home run against the Toronto Blue Jays with teammates during the third inning at Yankee Stadium. The Yankees are willing to be patient with him as he overcomes this slump at the plate. Sabathia (2-1, 4.34) is not looking to become the answer to a trivia question again. Well, the three-time All-Star and reigning home run derby champion finally has some real competition for that title now.

Matt Holiday doubled in the opening run in the bottom of the first before Aaron Hicks and Brett Gardner both hit two-run homers in the second.

Injury problems have hit the Blue Jays rotation hard this season with both J.A. Happ (elbow soreness) and Aaron Sanchez (split finger nail) now on the disabled list.

Given Judge’s attention-grabbing home runs, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Fox push for Judge to be included in the field at Miami for the Home Run Derby on July 10.
