Wizards’ Oubre suspended for Game 4 for knocking over Olynyk

That decision rested in the hands of Kiki VanDeWeghe, the NBA’s executive vice president of basketball operations.

The Washington Wizards emphatically announced they are still in the series with a blowout win in Game 3, but the emotion is threatening to do the team some harm.

The league said in a statement that Oubre was suspended for “charging and making forceful and unwarranted contact” with Olynyk.

The Wizards’ superstar went for 27 points, 12 assists and five steals in Game 4, spearheading his team’s dominant third quarter with the type of jaw-dropping play he has introduced to a national audience since the playoffs began last month. “They knew that we needed to come home and take care of business”. We can argue the semantics between a push and shove or whether or not Olynyk flopped, but the bottom line is that Oubre acted out of anger and for a lack of a better word, picked a fight.

Olynyk has to be physical for the Celtics, especially when he’s not hitting shots, which has been the case much of this series, particularly Game 3.

You can watch Oubre’s video above via Monumental Sports Network. “So whether I’m getting the calls or not, I’ve gotta be in attack mode, I’ve gotta be aggressive to get in the paint, to make things happen, not just for myself but for my teammates”.

“I think we’ve got to control our emotions. We’ve just got to keep going”.

“Second, players don’t have free rein to retaliate in this manner for any reason”.

“We just have to corral him”, said Wizards forward Markieff Morris. Team doctors are prepared to replace them again, if necessary.

“No, there wasn’t”, VanDeWeghe said. They went on a 26-0 run and we can’t have that on the road. “They have to handle that situation”.

The first quarter storm that has swept over the Boston Celtics in the first three games of their playoff series with Washington, was nothing more than a slight drizzle in Game 4.

Bill Sy: Referee Monty McCutchen told the scorers’ table that Oubre’s actions were “excessive and unnecessary and (he was) acting as an escalator“. But you look at each individual [situations] against the rules and you look at comparables, you go back through history. “Ryan, Lou, Eric, Trevor, Pat, and if we’re going to have a chance at this series they’re going to have to make plays, and they did tonight”. “Their second unit is going to be finding themselves a little bit without him, so we just have to capitalize”.

“Listen, these guys, both teams, they’re playing their hearts out”. “We gotta play hard, we gotta hit, we gotta foul hard if we have to but we ain’t gonna have to start doing stuff that’s gonna take us out of our game”.
