Kushner Companies apologizes for Journal Square project pitch to Chinese investors

Nicole Kushner Meyer, Kushner’s sister, mentioned her brother at a conference for wealthy Chinese investors as she tried to convince them to invest in the $821 million, two-tower project. They accused her of using Jared Kushner’s name to raise funds for the Kushner’s family project.

The EB-5 program, which lawmakers have targeted for reform, is authorized through government spending bills and has been renewed continuously for years as Congress has opted to renew short-term continuing resolutions.

About 15% of the $976.4m-project, known as One Journal Square, will be funded through the EB-5 programme, according to Kushner Companies.

Chinese investors willing to put up $500,000 could own a piece of the building – and get visas for themselves, their spouses, and their children under a USA program know as EB-5.

Critics were quick to accuse the family business of playing up its connection to the White House at the event Jada Pinkett Smith.

Another person who attended Sunday’s event, Liu Guoqi, was mindful of the potential rule change.
