New York Rangers: Plenty being said after Blueshirts tie Ottawa series

Down 2-1 going into the final 20 minutes, Nicklas Backstrom evened the contest less than three minutes into the third. Head coach Alain Vigneault talked about getting the contributions from all four lines by saying, “I’ve said this many times this year we have to have four lines that can play”. Everyone expected Ottawa to win this one, because blowing a 2-0 lead and putting the series back at square one was not going to be acceptable.

The Ottawa Senators expect to have captain Erik Karlsson back in the lineup when they host the New York Rangers in Game 5 of their Eastern Conference semifinal Saturday afternoon at Canadian Tire Centre. “We’re down and we can’t lose another game so we’re going to go back to NY, regroup, we’re going to have 48 hours and get ready for the next game”. For whatever reason, the Rangers just don’t seem to have that killer instinct when they have an opportunity to bury a team.

ABOUT THE RANGERS: All four lines produced goals for NY in Game 3 and its depth was a decisive factor in Game 4, with Oscar Lindberg scoring twice and bruising forward Tanner Glass collecting a pair of assists.

The Rangers, who trailed for only 4:11 in the first four games of the series, then grabbed hold of another lead with two goals in 66 seconds. The Rangers have won four consecutive home games this postseason.

That left Turris to win the game with his shot.

After a awful performance in game 3, you’d hope that Ottawa would come out hard in the first period.

Then, somehow it got worse. They need to win more puck battles so they can generate more offensive zone time. “I kind of asked some of the guys and they said not to worry about it”.

It was hard to blame Anderson for a three-goal deficit after 40 minutes. Zuccarello sent the puck along the boards on the left side behind the Ottawa net and Grabner got it, came out and put in a wraparound before Anderson, who had gone to his right, could recover.

Karlsson, who finished with three assists in more than 31 minutes, then fired the exit bomb from the Ottawa zone which led to Turris’s victor.

“They played well at home for their two games and we played at home for our two games and we’ve got a series”, Boucher said.

Aiming to avoid falling into a 0-3 series hole and with the home crowd buzzing from the singing of the national anthems, the Rangers came out aggressive from the start. The veteran Ottawa defenceman wanted to be clear that he knows the Senators are fortunate to be in NY up two games on the Rangers. It was the fourth overtime game of the playoffs for the Rangers (1-3).

Minnesota Wild left wing Jason Zucker has undergone surgery to fix a bilateral core muscle in his midsection, with recovery expected in time for the start of training camp.
