Tony Pulis says Chelsea are worthy Premier League champions

Antonio Conte spent the immediate aftermath of Chelsea’s title-winning 1-0 victory at West Bromwich Albion on Friday being bounced skywards by his players but once back on terra firma his mind was already focusing on the next target – the double. “To win in England is not easy”, Conte said.

“We played maybe a bit nervy because we knew what was at stake but showed experience in the end and wore them down”.

Chelsea have now won five Premier League titles since Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich bought the club in 2003, but this one is arguably the most impressive considering they finished a woeful 10th last season.

They had to work hard for victory against a West Brom side that demonstrated all the qualities that have made this such a satisfactory season for them but, as so often, Chelsea got the job done.

Reflecting on what was the turning point of Chelsea’s season, Conte said: “That decision changed our season (change of formation)”.

“I thank the players, the staff, the fans and the club for supporting me in every moment”.

It was Chelsea’s sixth league title and fifth in the EPL era.

“It’s important for me and also my players because don’t forget that last season was a bad season for the club, the players and the fans”.

The former midfielder has been heavily linked with a move back to Italy, with Inter reportedly ready to make him the world’s highest-paid coach, but Lampard hopes he stays to build a “dynasty” at Stamford Bridge.

As painful as it is to say, if the Blues DID have to play in Europe this season, they would likely have struggled to fend off those noisy neighbours of ours, but if another strong side had no Europe they would have of course been closer.

Michy Batshuayi came off the bench to net the only goal of the match against West Bromwich Albion, with the three points securing the crown with two matches to spare.

Conte also revealed how the season went uphill after their 3-0 loss in September a year ago to Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.

“It’s a dream which is coming true”. “After this triumph I think we can be happy with how the season has gone”.

West Brom were stubborn and threatened on the counter-attack, with boss Tony Pulis disappointed by the loss. Well done to Antonio. They’re the best team in the land this year. When I chose to come back here it was because of this – I dreamed of one day winning the Premier League so I’m very happy because my dream came true.

“They deserve the title”.

The striker enjoyed a hot streak in front of goal in the first half of the season, but his goal return has slowed since his head was apparently turned by a lucrative offer in January from China.
