Last week, ABC snapped up rights to the storied talent competition that gave the world such singing sensations as Jennifer Hudson, Kelly Clarkson and Jordin Sparks.
“The Voice” reportedly could not wait a lifetime to announce the news, perhaps releasing the announcement early to push back against ABC.
Shelton broke news of the casting in a Facebook Live on Thursday, appearing alongside Clarkson via FaceTime.
The news of Kelly’s new gig comes as something of a surprise considering she had been hotly tipped to take on a judging role on the American Idol reboot. “The Voice“, on the other hand, also airs twice a week, on Monday and Tuesday nights. This spring marks the 12th season for The Voice. Another alum is joining Team Voice.
ET caught up with the Live With Kelly and Ryan co-host outside the show’s NYC studio on Wednesday, where he commented on reports that American Idol’s first-season victor, Kelly Clarkson, is being eyed as a potential judge when the series returns.
