Republican who led health bill met by protests

Republican leaders have insisted that the legislation narrowly passed in the House of Representatives May 4 will provide options for people with pre-existing conditions.

Congressman Tom MacArthur is not ducking and hiding, but his town hall is off to a raucous start. It was amusing to hear President Trump’s haters mocking him when he “discovered” that health care is complicated, yet as soon as the bill passed, they didn’t find it at all complicated to make specific predictions of all the disastrous things that would result. Democrats, though, also celebrated, because they feel the Obamacare replacement will prove so inadequate, forcing millions of people back into the ranks of the uninsured, that it will propel them into the majority in the House in the 2018 elections.

“This year I’m cancer-free”, she said. Further, the study says that people will care more about individual health care costs than the total number of people who will lose insurance.

“Whether it’s fun or not, I owe you that”, he said. In Georgia, running for the seat vacated by Trump’s Health and Human Services Secretary Tom Price, Democratic candidate Joel Ossoff has openly assailed the House-passed bill. VanWright said shes a Democrat and that her message to MacArthur is to abandon repealing Barack Obamas signature law and instead embracing universal health coverage. But a handful of conditions and interventions that can follow a sexual assault could have led people who were raped to be excluded from buying policies.

To do that, Wisconsin would set up high-risk insurance pools to help arrange coverage for those people. Children’s Health Insurance Program for low-income families with children was enacted 20 years ago. “However, the amendment would also dictate that health insurance offered to members of Congress and their staffs not be included in the exemption from covering pre-existing conditions“. Indeed, the Congressional Budget Office estimated some 24 million people would lose coverage over the coming decade if an earlier version of the measure were to become law.

House Speaker Paul Ryan canceled the initial vote on the GOP plan over lack of enough support from conservative and moderate lawmakers.

The American Health Care Act comes as Obamacare enters the last leg of its death spiral. And some other tax changes in the GOP health plan would benefit the middle class.

MacArthur, responding to a question from a constituent concerned about Medicaid rollbacks, said “this isn’t tax cuts for the rich”.

The bill includes almost $1 trillion in tax cuts over the next decade, much of that for the very wealthy.

The perversity of it all is that the legislation is properly understood as doing more to preserve the Obamacare regulation on pre-existing conditions than to undermine it. Republican Gov. Chris Christie estimates 500,000 residents have gained coverage under the expansion, which he has touted as part of his efforts to fight the state’s opioid addiction epidemic. There’s a decent chance the GOP’s American Health Care Act will die in the Senate. The Affordable Health Care Act is now under consideration in the Senate.

“Getting something done this year for Iowans I think is going to be a heavy lift”, Blum later told The Associated Press.

Before the session, the staff noted that in Willingboro, a township that is 73 percent black, only 12 percent of voters backed MacArthur in 2016.
