It has been learned that a total of 8 places in Chennai were raided by CBI, as per Times Now report.
In connection with the same CBI team is targeted the residence of karti Chidambaram and searches are going at the locations of Mumbai, Delhi and Gurugram.
The Mukerjeas, accused of murder in the sensational Sheena Bora case, are now in jail.
Former Finance Minister and Congress Leader P Chidambaram’s house was raided this morning by the CBI.
Chidambaram, a top Congress leader, was Finance Minister in the Manmohan Singh government.
The raids were conducted in connection with the FIPB clearances given to INX Media (now called 9X Media) when it was run by Peter and Indrani Mukherjea and Chidambaram was the Finance Minister.
“Strongly condemn raids against Chidambaram and Karti Chidambaram“. It was then the company engaged the services with Chess Management Service Pvt Ltd, which has Karti Chidambaram as its promoter.
Chidambaram denied wrongdoing. He said all investment approvals granted during his tenure were above board.
“The raids have to take place to get documents and incriminating evidence which they have kept”, Swamy told television news agency ANI, an affiliate of Reuters. The two firms in the past have explained their transactions and repeatedly clarified through their statements that Karti was never a shareholder nor a director of either of the companies, said the former Union Minister. The raids are to do with a particular deal which involved required permissions being given to a TV channel, and that the deal was linked to Indrani Mukherjee and her company INX Media. The government wants to silence my voice.
It is alleged that Karti received money from INX Media for using his influence to manipulate a tax probe against it in a case of violation of Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) conditions to receive investment from Mauritius.
After the raid at his residence, Karti was seen getting into a vehicle along with CBI officials, who then took him to his office also located in Nungambakkam.
He claimed that Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje and External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj allegedly helped people like Lalit Modi who escaped from the country and were wanted by investigative agencies for alleged money laundering.
Both the Congress and the RJD have accused the Narendra Modi-led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government of misusing central investigative agencies to suppress the voice of the opposition parties.
