Memorial Day ceremonies, parade set for weekend

Whitehall and Montague will conduct their annual Memorial Day parade, beginning at 10:30 a.m.at the Whitehall Municipal Marina due to construction.

Following the ceremony, Lott said refreshments will be served inside the lodge and Pastor Jerry Keith McKee will show a video of last year’s ceremony. Service will immediately follow parade.

The parade will form at Hilldonia Avenue, Dallas Township, between Saginaw and Church streets, at 8 a.m., and leave 9 a.m. sharp. Featured speaker is Richard “Dick” Duffett. Those attending are encouraged to bring a single, nonperishable food item, which will be collected and donated to area veterans in need by the Zion Lutheran Church Veterans Food Bank.

The service at Marysville Cemetery will begin with a musical tribute at 10 a.m.by the Marshall County Community Band. The bus schedule for cemetery honors can be found here.

The day will start with Ceremonial Flag Raising at 8 a.m.at the VFW Post 8584, Olde Eight Road in Northfield Center.

On Wednesday, June 14, return on 9 a.m.to Veterans Park for a brief Flag Day Ceremony at Veterans Park. Speaker is Mahoning County Auditor Dan Yemma.

At 12:30 p.m. a memorial service will also be held by Post 88 members in their Garden of Honor located in front of the post home at 26 Chenango St. Rich Ottens will introduce the keynote speaker, Floyd West.

At daybreak on Memorial Day, May 29, the flag is run to half-staff to honor deceased veterans. A parade through the village of Meridian will follow at 11 a.m.

Pastor Ann Spitzenberger will give the benediction. A color guard will present the colors, a rifle salute will take place, and taps will be played.

On Monday, May 29, at 10 a.m., American Legion Post 95 and Glencoe VFW Post 5102 will host a Memorial Day service in the Glencoe-Silver Lake High School Auditorium. Parade will proceed from Chalker Building to Pinecrest Cemetery. Meet at Gushee’s Corner at 10:45 a.m. and walk to the cemetery.

In case of rain, the park ceremony will be moved to the American Legion Hall on Columbus Street. The parade will step off at 1 p.m. from the fire house and will end at Carlin Field. The parade will then march west on Newtown-Yardley Road to the Newtown Cemetery where the Council Rock High School North Band will join veterans for a brief ceremony at the gravesite of Morell Smith.
