Cleveland has lost the opener in the Finals to Golden State for three straight years but did rally to win the championship in seven games last year.
Not that anyone expected any different.
The moment we were all waiting for finally arrived Thursday night as the Golden State Warriors and Cleveland Cavaliers met for Game 1 of the NBA Finals for the third consecutive year.
Perhaps most noteworthy, it gives Durant the chance at a first championship and validation for his decision to leave the Thunder and join the league’s latest super team. “I got to do my part and we all got to make it come together as a group”.
“Hate in America, especially for African-Americans, is living every day”, James said, “and even though it’s concealed most of the time, even though people hide their faces and. when they see you they smile in your face, it’s alive every single day”.
“The most unfortunate part is that I can’t be with my kids right now”, James said. “Cleveland fired me twice, this is a time to get back at ’em. extra incentive”.
“You know, I understand that that’s my job. They got downhill, got to the spots where they wanted to go”, forward Kevin Love said. Don’t let it overtake what’s at stake, but you can feel a little redemption if you want. His scoring average (7.5 points per game) is better than any he has had in a regular season. “He’s feeling better”, one source told Spears. That not only extends the best start in any single postseason in National Basketball Association history, it would tie the league mark for consecutive playoff wins. Curry shot just 40 percent in the Finals a year ago and had more turnovers (30) than assists (26) as he nursed injuries to his knee and ankle. “But I think we got a great group of guys, headlined by one of the best guys to ever do it”. Good thing. almost two years ago he had routine back surgery and lingering complications from the procedure have rendered him unable to do what he’s done masterfully since joining the Warriors in 2014 – coach from the bench.
After the Warriors broke out of the second half, it seemed pretty clear that Cleveland wasn’t going to win Game 1. Again, maybe it’s not a fair comparison to Barnes who is a decent player in his own right, but does he create that kind of space?
The Warriors are a powerhouse, but the Cavs are 12-1 in the playoffs and give themselves a shot no matter who else does.
It also has nothing to do with the Golden State Warriors’ Stephen Curry coming from Davidson and Charlotte or Carolina’s James Michael McAdoo trying to win his second National Basketball Association title with the Dubs.
“To be able to get the opportunity to get the call previous year to join this team was definitely great news for me”, Clark recently told the Deseret News (Salt Lake City).
