Unfortunately, since the characters are from rival studios, it’s not likely to be a battle that you’ll be able to see in a movie theater any time soon. Watch the film, you’ll feel it. Gal Gadot’s acting was great, and it’s apparent in the films first scenes and later on in the film. I hope this movie spawns more good movies featuring female leads, more complex and interesting stories, more compelling characters and more blockbusters with female directors.
But Gal Gadot, the Israeli actress who plays Wonder Woman, is a ideal fit to the role. She primarily wants to stop the war and while the complexities may be lost on her, it’s an admirable position to take and there is a rooting interest from the viewer. She believes that Ares has corrupted mankind, and once she kills him, their goodness will be restored. Seeing Diana as a fish out of water as she learns about outside life with Steve is both heart-warming and hilarious.
So I think it’s safe to say that all of this hate was unnecessary, but the same thing happened for Ben Affleck being cast as Batman, and look how that turned out.
“Wonder Woman” is set to hit the silver screen this weekend.
Timing-wise, it’s flawless. I was just writing an email to Patty about this – more than 40 years ago they told me: “We’re gonna do a pilot, but honestly, a woman won’t be able to sustain an hour of TV”. Patty Jenkins keeps the womanly thing alive all through the movie despite her main character being dressed nearly always in iron armour, fighting evil men, rippling muscles and being ruggedly Amazonian. “All of that changes this week with Patty Jenkins” ‘Wonder Woman’. Gadot may have said it best why everyone is flocking to see the newest DC Comics badass.
So, what did you think of Wonder Woman? “It’s also the scene that made the least sense to other people going in, which is why it’s a wonderful victory for me”. Pictures’ Wonder Woman pulled off the year’s biggest non-holiday opening day record as it grossed a whopping P48.39-M on its first day of release (including midnight previews) yesterday, June 1. At the time those Wonder Woman comics were being published, the real America was in the middle of World War II.
Unlike other movies, however, which too easily equate innocence with a childlike quality, “Wonder Woman” never makes the mistake of reducing Diana in any way.
