POLLSTERS’ PREDICTIONS The Tories had a 15 point lead when they announced June’s election – but what is it now?
The Conservatives have made an official complaint to the BBC after the debate about the “biased” audience in the leaders’ debate and warned there must be no repeat when May and Corbyn appear on a Question Time special.
Mr Corbyn said: “When Labour talks about job creation, we mean decent jobs, jobs which pay a real living wage, which people can get by on and which give people a sense of pride and goal”.
Mr Corbyn said he expected to be able to keep his allotment if he became PM, saying: “I would make sure there is always balance”.
The “vast majority” of the one million good quality jobs Labour has pledged to create would go to British workers, Jeremy Corbyn has suggested.
But it does beg some questions about the prime minister’s judgement and her team’s distinct lack of a credible Plan B when things got tough. “I like Jeremy Corbyn, but I just don’t agree with him”.
Defending her decision to call an early election, the Prime Minister said she was willing to go back on her promise “because this is a really important moment for our country”. We have a great team of very experienced people. “I think I can trust Keir Starmer with negotiations more than some other people who are undertaking those negotiations”, he said.
A YouGov model based on different data estimated Ms May’s Conservatives would win 317 seats, nine short of an overall majority of 326 seats.Theresa May has said that a stronger majority in the 8 June election would give her a stronger negotiating hand in Brexit.
Unless Mrs May does deliver a handsome majority next week she will be a wounded prime minister.
He said: “The difference in the polls in this election is easy to understand – it is nearly wholly to do with how pollsters treat turnout”. I could have stayed on and kept doing that job.
Many have called it an unnecessary election.
“I know everyone around here says he’s bad but I’ve seen him on the television a few times and he seemed all right”.
Ms May has faced some criticism for declining to directly debate Mr Corbyn or any of the leaders of the smaller parties.
“He responded saying “it is a serious and realistic document that addresses the issues that many people in this country face and we’ve been courageous enough to put it out there with all the policies that are in it”.
Mrs May repeated her mantra that “the only poll that matters is the one that takes place on polling day”.
The Prime Minister promised further investment and a new Mental Health Act to end workplace discrimination. “On the contrary we want people to keep more of their earnings”.
May praised her performance when she stood in for the prime minister at a televised election debate on Wednesday featuring all Britain’s main party leaders after May herself declined to attend.
One of the snippets used is an interview Corbyn gave to Sky News in May, where the Labour boss argued that “all bombing is wrong, of course I condemn [IRA bombings]”.
Labour is fighting to win this election so we can transform Britain so that it works for the many not just the privileged few.
