MacOS High Sierra: The New Features Coming To Your Computer

Apple usually has a lot of fun with their naming scheme of new generations of macOS, and since a year ago brought macOS Sierra, the company thought it’d be fun to call macOS 10.13 High Sierra.

The feature is one element of Apple’s updated operating system, called High Sierra, Senior Vice President Craig Federighi told the audience in San Jose. Numerous new features include behind-the-scene updates that will make your Mac seem faster and more secure. The company claims that the file system will be safe as well as stable, while being faster to boot. APFS offers some noteworthy speed improvements, which was demonstrated by a video of a lightning-fast copy process duplicating several HD video files. In terms of security, Apple brings built-in encryption, streamlined data backup, and crash proof ability.

The Californian technology company intends to block auto-playing videos in its desktop browser Safari, it said at its WWDC developer conference on Tuesday. macOS High Sierra adds support for High-Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) that enables playback of 4K video files that are up to 40% smaller than the current H.264 standard.

You will require Metal graphics support in MacOS 10.11.16 or higher.

Apple wants to make up for its lost ground in the graphics department. Metal 2 is 10x faster than the first Metal and is 100x improvement over openGL technology for graphics.

The Metal API has had an upgrade with the release today of Metal 2 and an accompanying developer kit.
