Instead, it streams a pre-recorded Nintendo Spotlight video on the morning of the massive game show opening its doors for the first time. After the Pokemon Direct last week in which some people were not terribly impressed, many didn’t expect any big news to come out of E3 2017.

The contrast between the game’s realistic environments and the cartoony visuals Nintendo is known for is stark and somewhat off-putting. One of the biggest announcements, however, was the release date for Super Mario Odyssey, the hotly anticipated core Mario game for the Nintendo Switch.

By way of a reveal trailer at the E3 2017, Nintendo announced last Tuesday that it will release Super Mario Odyssey this coming October 27 for the Switch.

In any case, this is a brand new wrinkle that seems to mesh perfectly with established Mario gameplay. We just recently had a chance to play and capture some gameplay for Super Mario Odyssey.

No further information was given regarding the game, except that it won’t be released till next year at the earliest.
