Aaron Judge outslugs Miguel Sano to win Home Run Derby

New York Yankees rookie slugging outfielder Aaron Judge’s victory in Monday night’s Home Run Derby proved to be a victor in the Nielsen Ratings court for ESPN. Judge narrowly escaped with a win over the Marlins’ slugger Bour – who was easily one of the biggest dark-horse candidates.

Seeming exhausted, Sanchez opened the second round with 10 and Sano needed just 3:10 to hit 11, the longest at 491 feet.

NOTES: The only hitters to win the Home Run Derby in their home park were Chicago Cubs 2B Ryne Sandberg at Wrigley Field in 1990 and Cincinnati Reds 3B Todd Frazier at the Great American Ballpark in 2015.

With Baltimore Orioles second baseman Jonathan Schoop at second base after a two-out double past third, Sano hit the ball off the end of his bat, getting a soft run-scoring hit behind first base and in front of National League right fielder Bryce Harper. Judge is the first Yankee aged 25 or younger to hit 30 homers in a season since Don Mattingly hit 31 in 1986. He scraped the roof with one homer and sailed another over the gaudy, sea-life-themed sculpture in left-center field. “I don’t take myself to seriously, and I’m thankful for a job where I don’t have to look nice”.

The rookie of the Yankees dominated the major leagues since the start of the season. Ultimately, the hang time on Stanton’s home runs may have been an issue this time around.

The maps produced to commemorate the passing of Judge in the competition circuit have found a taker in a few minutes on Tuesday. He outdueled the likes of both Justin Bour and Los Angeles Dodgers rookie Cody Bellinger. Bellinger would do his part in the second round with 12 home runs, but may have exhausted too fast. “I enjoyed every minute of it”, he added. This round was special because he notched home runs of 503 feet, 507 feet, and 513 feet. Sano had a lot of takes, and had to try to go the other way often due to poor pitches.

In the finals, Sano was clearly exhausted, too, hitting just 10 homers. Unselfish talked more about the people who helped him win than his unbelievable blasts. He only had two at-bats, but his final one resulted in a solo home run off of Chan Ho Park that gave the AL a 1-0 lead in the third inning.
