White House: Decision on DACA Expected Tuesday

September 07 12:31 2017

Since its creation in 2012, 800,000 immigrants who were illegally brought to the U.S. as children have received temporary deportation relief, as well as permits to work in the US.

The White House has offered several different timelines for the announcement. “But the DACA situation is a very, very hard thing for me”.

“I would put in that category efforts to round up kids who have grown up here and for all practical purposes are American kids and send them someplace else”, Obama said in January, a clear reference to DACA. It’s a very – It’s a very, very tough subject. “They have an appreciation for the opportunities afforded them by our country. our Office has decided not to challenge DACA in the litigation, because we believe there is a better approach”.

Three months later, Trump told the Associated Press, “The DREAMers should rest easy”. This group of undocumented immigrants are often described as Dreamers.

At the same time, the Department of Homeland Security would not target Dreamers for deportation, one of the sources said.

Among those targeted in the nation’s immigration crackdown, few evoke as much empathy as the Dreamers – children brought to America by their parents without authorization. The permits last two years and were renewable.

The White House said Trump will announce his decision Tuesday on whether to terminate the program. They gave Trump a deadline of September 5.

Luis Angel Aguilar, 29, applied for DACA protections in 2013.

“My family crossed the border when I was about 10 or 11 years old in Arizona”, he said.

Some of the undocumented immigrants, called “Dreamers”, then began receiving work permits. “I actually don’t think he should do that”. Their support raises the possibility that a handful of Republicans could join congressional Democrats to get a bill over the finish line.

Dozens of immigrant rights advocates on Sunday gathered in front of the White House and urged the president to allow DACA to remain in place.

Many have also questioned the constitutionality of the program, and the legality of President Obama implementing it from the beginning. “People who are coming here illegally and competing for those jobs”, Conway said.

Many, perhaps most, of these young people know no other home”.

“As an educator, I work with young people every day”.

The programme — Deferred Action for Children Arrival (DACA) is an American immigration policy founded by the Obama administration in 2012.

“He should have done it in conjunction with Congress, which is how we make laws in our democracy”, Scott said in a statement released Friday. “The Arizona immigrant community, including DACA recipients, are young, bilingual and entrepreneurial, qualities we ought to celebrate”, Taylor said.
