Emmy Awards: List of winners

Surprise victor Riz Ahmed edged out the favorite Academy award-winner Robert De Niro (“Raging Bull”) to win Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series for “The Night Of“.

Hulu’s dystopian adaptation of The Handmaid’s Tale won television’s most prestigious prize on Sunday night, even though the streaming service has a smaller programming budget than its competitors, Netflix and Amazon.

Just last year, a large of LGBT actors won Emmys for their performances, and this year it has been more of the same, with Kate McKinnon taking home the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series, and Lena Waithe becoming the first black woman to win the Emmy in Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series for Master of None’s “Thanksgiving” episode.

Later in the show, Dern and Skarsgård’s castmate, Kidman, won best movie or limited-series drama actress. Anyone needing proof of that can just look at The Handmaid’s Tale’s win in the Best Drama category. Reed Morano (The Handmaid’s Tale) took the Emmy for outstanding directing for a drama series. “Which was one of the premises I used for the book”.

All nominees for Outstanding Comedy Series this year have been nominated in the past, with the exception of FX Network’s “Atlanta“.
