“Sloppy quarterback play. The quarterback and the center need to be on the same page there; we gotta get the ball snapped“.
When Ben McAdoo does all of that, he can start blaming Eli Manning.
In a game in which Matthew Stafford threw for just 122 yards, the Lions physically dominated the Giants on both sides of the ball for a 24-10 win at MetLife Stadium.
Miscues, blown assignments and bad play calling all led the Giants to another poor showing to start the season, a season with so much promise that now appears on the brink of collapse. That said, they’re 0-5 against the number in their last five games in Week 2. Manning, who had been sacked four times in the first half, was dragged down in the pocket again on the second play of the second half. However, the Giants are trying to avoid a second straight loss which would drop them to 0-2 and immediately make their season look like its moving to the brink. Detroit forced five sacks on the Giants offense and NY forced three sacks on the Lions offense. They proved it today, or I mean, we saw they can move the ball down field.
The two teams experienced mixed fortunes on the opening weekend of the season, with the Lions recording a come-from-behind victory over the Arizona Cardinals, while the Giants went down with a whimper, losing 19-3 to NFC East divisional rivals Dallas Cowboys. Trailing 17-7 in the third quarter, the Giants lined up to go for it on 4th-and-goal from the 2-yard line. That is as close as it gets and shows just for how long they have been going to war against one another.
CONFUSED ENGRAM: Engram was confused by the unsportsmanlike conduct penalty he received after catching his touchdown on the first play of the second quarter. The Giants had first-and-goal at the 1 and then got pushed back to the 11 on a holding penalty on a first-down run. For the rookie tight end, it was the first touchdown catch of his career.
Manning finished 22 of 32 for 239 yards with one touchdown and one interception. Darius Slay and Whitehead led the Lions with eight tackles. Stafford had a quiet night but he played better than Eli.
Aside from the fact that the field goal was awesome, it was also his 12th consecutive made field goal from at least 50 yards and that’s pretty cool too. As such, they should make for a fun Monday Night Football matchup.
The Lions would turnover the ball as Matt Stafford lost the handle on a sack by Jason Pierre-Paul.
