He said that he’s the people’s candidate, while odd is a creature of the establishment.

The race has, for the first time, pitted Trump against his former chief strategist Steve Bannon, who has urged conservatives to support Moore and used Breitbart.com, where he is an executive, to bash odd.

Carson stopped just short of endorsing Moore, possibly because the federal Hatch Act bars Cabinet secretaries from political activity.

Trump did underscore an argument that GOP strategists backing unusual have been making – he’s the most electable come December’s general election race against Democratic nominee Doug Jones.

For the Republican Party nationally, though, the contours of the contest are far less important than what a Moore victory could mean for the party’s brand.

We can’t have madmen out there shooting rockets all over the place“, Trump said.

While speaking on behalf of Alabama Republican Senate candidate Luther Strange, Trump touted his proposal for a wall on the United States’ southern border.

Moore’s campaign has bought time during the game in at least one TV market, paying $15,000 for a 30-second spot on Birmingham’s CBS affiliate, according to a contract posted last night. Most polls show Moore, an unapologetic religious conservative, with a lead.

The celebrated American defense attorney said this self-perpetuating trend has been seen time and time again. “And I’ve said all along I think either one of them will do a good job”, he said.

Several other top Trump supporters have also gone in the opposite direction of the president on the Alabama special election, including Sarah Palin and Republican former Sen.

The sartorially challenged Goldman Sachs veteran, now running Breitbartafter a failed attempt to run the USA government, is responding to the new political reality diagnosed by Bill Maher: Trump isn’t bipartisan; he’s bipolar.

Trump’s involvement in the Alabama race could help bolster his strained relationship with Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, whose help the president needs to advance his agenda on taxes, healthcare and immigration.

Though Strange’s allies have outspent Moore in the campaign, hitting him with a barrage of negative ads, Moore has been ahead in public polling. Trump said Republicans “don’t have the guts to vote for it” now they have a president who will sign it. Sen.

The White House did not respond to phone calls and emails seeking comment on whether Carson had notified the White House of his plans to support Moore.

A close confidant of Carson said the praise was not endorsement, and noted Carson and Moore are longtime friends.
