Penn State Beats Iowa on Final Play Behind Saquon Barkley’s Huge Performance

September 24 04:11 2017

The Nittany Lions wunderkind was out-of-this-world on a magical night in Iowa City, leading No. 4 Penn State to a heart-stopping 21-19 win that saw the winning points scored on a seven-yard TD pass with no time left from Trace McSorley to Juwan Johnson. Penn State is still in position to claim both, thanks to Barkley, McSorley and a big-game poise that paid off in a massive way in the waning seconds on Saturday.

Saquon Barkley put on an absolute show in Penn State’s comeback win over Iowa on Saturday night, leaving even his head coach impressed. Saquon Barkley rushed for 211 yards on 28 carries and a touchdown, and caught 12 passes for 94 yards. PSU took their third possession and drove 66 yards to the Iowa goal line, but had to settle for the field goal instead.

Taylor Louis’ 17 kills paced the Hawkeyes (12-3, 1-1), who have never beaten the Nittany Lions in 51 meetings.

The trip to Iowa may have been far more uncomfortable than Penn State would have liked, but it escaped the fate of the 2008 trip to Kinnick Stadium and the fate of Michigan’s trip there last November.

Penn State claimed its second shutout victory of the season after downing the Georgia State 56-0 while Iowa posted a 31-14 victory over North Texas last Saturday improving the Hawkeyes’ to 3-0. The Nittany Lions picked off three passes last week in a shutout of Georgia State, and Allen, in his 42nd game, snagged the first interception of his career.

Don’t expect Iowa to find much on the ground, because Penn State will load up on Wadley and James Butler, but Stanley is an accurate passer who could find some plays through the air.

Offensive lineman Andrew Nelson said Ohio State and Rutgers were the two loudest road venues where he has played.

Ferentz said Tuesday the plan is to utilize all three running backs Akrum Wadley, Toren Young, and Ivory Kelly-Martin against the Nittany Lions. If the Nittany Lions shut down Wadley and hold Iowa down on the scoreboard, this defense will gain some legitimacy moving forward. Senior Linebacker Josey Jewel leads the team in tackles and is considered one of the top defenders in the Big Ten.

The Terrapins will compete Saturday and Sunday at the Penn State Blue Course. Last year, Iowa stunned No. 2 MI 14-13. “The big difference in the game was that running back”. I know I may have taken a few cheap shops at lesser opponents in my Keys to the Game each week, but Iowa needs to be respected. Penn State loaded the box a lot during the first half, so maybe some different looks to open it up. Game-time temperature expected to be 89 F with winds blowing at 7.8 miles per hour. “And it doesn’t allow the defense to have the last say of what they want you to do”. He also owns a 23-335-2 receiving line. McSorley was inefficient and made a couple of mistakes, while Penn State got little production from its wide receivers outside of Johnson. A Nittany Lion service error followed by a kill from Kelsey O’Neill brought up two set points for the Hawkeyes, who finished the set on the 13th kill of the night from Claire Sheehan.
