It was on Sunday Night 2017, when WWE gave its fans two WrestleMania worthy “no mercy” level of main event.
All five women involved deserve credit for putting on what was arguably the match of the night. Look to see Bliss pick her spot, take advantage of the ideal situation and have her stock rise even more. The crowd’s reactions at No Mercy were a ideal example of this problem. After the match, Jordan cut a promo about how he wants a rematch and that Miz sucks. Alexa came off well and seemingly has 2 challengers waiting as they teased matches with Mickey and Asuka. Roman recovered and hit a Superman Punch/spear combo, finally getting him the win.
Widro: Bray Wyatt is not good. If not, one can only hope that they have something big in mind to avoid this feeling like it’s overstaying it’s welcome as other Wyatt feuds have done. That appeared to be the mantra at No Mercy for two of the most anticipated matches of the year.
The match that WWE fans had been waiting for came to an anticlimactic, unsatisfying end. An unbelievable sequence and moment at No Mercy, something few, if anyone, ever accomplished in the WWE.
Firstly, why does the WWE insist on sending out champions first!? Sasha was the first one added to the match because she asked for her rematch.
Early in the match it felt like no-one quite knew who to cheer for, but the crowd quickly warmed up as things progressed. I enjoyed this more than the Young Bucks vs. Rollins hit the V-Trigger and Ambrose followed up with the Dirty Deeds to retain. Ambrose and Rollins take advantage of the confusion to double team the Celtic Warrior (who accidentally Brogue Kicks Cesaro) to retain the tag titles. Good stuff all around.
Lesnar ended the match with F-5 for the three count, continuing his long championship reign. Someone on my Twitter feed pointed out that it has been 532 days since her last PPV appearance, a insane statistic considering her talent. Banks looked the strongest in the match and she has the match in the hand when she had Bayley in the Banks statement.
A very fun match, with an anti-climactic finish.
The first of the night’s two big matches got off to a unusual start. He popped right back up after a German suplex to hit Lesnar with a chokeslam and then the running Powerslam.
Roman Reigns defeated John Cena via pinfall. The opening half of this match was actually fairly plodding.
For a while, Cena doubted Reigns being able to take over his spot as ‘the guy.’ It seems Cena has changed his mind about that. Look no further than John Cena and Randy Orton in recent years. Cruiserweight champion Neville’s high-flying finishing move is called the Red Arrow, and the superstar even teamed up with Arrow star Stephen Amell for a match. A few weeks later, Wyatt made a surprise appearance in a battle royal to determine the number one contender for the WWE Intercontinental Championship.
What a bad decision this was.
Neville dominates much of the match. Should be nothing more than a squash for Neville.
What a disappointment this was. Strowman has laid out Lesnar every time they met in the ring. Balor got upset and took off his jacket then ran down to the ring.
Is No Mercy going to be Braun Strowman’s coming-out party? Poor close to an otherwise great show. Cena said something to Reigns and then Roman left the ring.
Enzo did what he’s continued to do since joining the Cruiserweight Division-he cheated to win.
