Mattis downplays rift between Trump and Tillerson on North Korea

U.S. Defense Secretary Jim Mattis has reaffirmed the U.S.is* working towards talks with North Korea. “Save your energy Rex”, he added, “we’ll do what has to be done!” Tillerson, who is in China, had said that the USA was in direct communication with North Korea as part of their effort to reduce tension over its nuclear programme.

Kuala Lumpur Hospital forensics pathologist Dr Mohd Shah Mahmood, who conducted the post mortem on the man identified as “Kim Chol” on his passport, said this during cross examination at the trial of 25-year-old Indonesian Siti Aisyah and 29-year-old Vietnamese Doan Thi Huong, who are both accused of murdering Jong-nam.

So it was hard to square Tillerson’s diplomatic push with the Trump tweets that greeted him Sunday as he flew back from meeting Chinese leader in Beijing. “Clinton failed, Bush failed, and Obama failed”.

“I’ve been keeping up with it a lot”, said Liam Lovekin, a second-year exploratory student.

With the humanitarian crisis going on in the southern states and Puerto Rico at the hands of Mother Nature, war is the very last thing the USA needs at this moment; especially against an enemy whose nickname has become “rocket man”. I’m not severely anxious.

Asked about this, Senator Payne said: “Even if I think it, I’m not going to talk about it”. “There are enough smart people that nothing will come of it”.

The move by the city government of Dandong indicates that Beijing has quietly ramped up its pressure on Pyongyang in line with tougher sanctions in response to North Korea’s weapons development, as it paves the way for U.S. President Donald Trump’s planned visit to China in November.

From the cavalcade of rhetoric and tweet-threats emanating from the White House, which message is Kim Jong Un supposed to hear?

Of course, Kim Jong-un knows the diplomacy of violence very well.

“We could stumble into conflict”, DeTrani said.

When this failed, the United Nations implemented sanctions – which the worldwide community has done annually since 1996. It’s also cutting off loans to Chinese firms that do business in North Korea.

“I think the whole situation’s a bit overheated right now”, Tillerson said.

Four of the 11 were weightlifters and Kim was photographed with one on each arm, the 56kg world record holder and multiple champion Om Yun-chol, and 62kg victor Kim Un-guk, both of whom are national heroes.

The China factor is vexing for the US intelligence community, since Beijing is Pyongyang’s main ally.

Earlier this year, Tillerson said the US under prior administrations had given more than $1.3 billion in assistance to North Korea but had little to show for it.

Isaac Campos, director of undergraduate studies in the history department, said Trump’s motives are purely emotionally-driven.

The top priority of North Korea’s leaders is to preserve their regime and keep it as free as possible from outside control. “Unlike most of his predecessors in the office, Trump seems to revel in his ignorance and lack of preparedness”.

With that said, recent administrations have failed to get North Korea to make good on its promises, and there may be wisdom in trying a different tack with hopes of better results. Yet there are still voices in the USA questioning China’s determination and calling for unilateral action.
