BRACK: Demand real gun control

Even if they did advocate for unrestricted firearms ownership, these are the same men who owned slaves, committed genocide against and expelled native peoples, withheld enfranchisement from women, engaged in and killed one another in duels, and so on.

For too long, the gun lobby has had a hand in writing the USA gun laws and, as a result, the country has the highest rate of gun homicides of any developed nation.

As a result, too many gun control efforts can be dismissed as liberal elites lecturing Middle America about the moral and macho failures of the gun culture.

I have noticed, though, that you do not often hear people recite the first part of that sentence in the Second Amendment when events like this happen.

In addition, under Moore’s plan you would not be able to keep your gun at home but would be required to store it at a “licensed gun club or government-regulated gun storage facility”. Additionally, the government can regulate who may possess firearms, such as restricting gun ownership from prior felons or individuals with a history of mental illness. Trudging down this path would prove some of the most unhinged people in this country right, and would undoubtedly create a ripple effect similar to the election of Donald Trump.

How can we pride ourselves on being the “land of the free” when we can’t even freely attend a concert, or a night club, or even go to school without the fear of someone walking into these public spaces with assault weapons in tow.

“A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free State”.

I use the term “militia” because in the Second Amendment to the Constitution, it states that private gun ownership is for the goal of a “well regulated militia” with the objective of protecting our free state. Take this tweet for example. Well, over 33,000 Americans are killed by guns every single year, right under his useless nose. This isn’t rocket science. “And frankly, what I experienced was when there was a shooter, luckily we had Capitol Police with their own guns“. Well, I hate to break it to you, but “thoughts and prayers” simply aren’t cutting it! According to Jill Snyder, the agent in charge of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives’ office in San Francisco, investigators found several bump stocks in the hotel room of Las Vegas shooter Stephen Paddock this week.

We can not and should not abandon our rights and freedoms, including gun ownership.

There has to be a compromise on gun control legislation.”The probability that we may fail in the struggle ought not to deter us from the support of a cause we believe to be just, ” said Abraham Lincoln.

The argument of the National Rifle Association (NRA) is it takes a good man with a gun to stop a bad man with a gun, therefore they totally miss the obvious in that the best way to stop a bad man with a gun is to prevent him obtaining one in the first place.

As my co-workers and I kept looking at the data, it seemed less and less clear that one broad gun-control restriction could make a big difference. A mass shooting in the United States on nine out of every 10 days, on average.

“People use guns way more to defend themselves from criminals, than criminals using guns to hurt people”, he added.

General Assembly President Miroslav Lajcak lamented that in the world we inhabit today, violence has become a “tool of choice”.

Let’s do something real this time to curb the gun violence infecting America.

Re: “Dozens killed, hundreds injured”, October 3.

What has to be done once and for all is to repeal the Second Amendment and not replace it by any valueless tighter gun control measures.

But we have to try. But it’s not that simple. It would essentially call for a gun ban.

Firearms control in the United Kingdom is among the toughest in the world after Thomas Hamilton unloaded his legally held arsenal of handguns on Dunblane primary school killing 16 children and their teacher.
